The walls are slowly getting higher, and we’re now close to head height on both sides of the extension. It’s encouraging to see the structure taking shape.
The lintel for one set of doors has arrived, and the steel beam for the opening above the wider doors is on its way. We’re also reaching the point where we’ll need a platform or scaffold to carry on building safely at a greater height. Our neighbour has a scaffold tower we can borrow, but we still need to find some boards for it.
Material prices have risen sharply since we put together our budget last year, which is going to make things a little more complicated.
Our friend George Snook, a retired bricklayer, has been visiting from time to time to offer advice. He says we’re doing a good job, which is reassuring as we continue learning along the way.
