More digging today brings us up to date. I’ve ordered the new inspection chambers, pea gravel and some six-metre lengths of pipe. I’ll try to finish preparing the trenches this weekend.

The chambers will be more than 60cm deep, so we’ve ordered the larger, 450mm-wide chambers to meet the building regulations requirements for our installation. We’ll also need to buy a laser level to help us get the trench levels right.

One of the trickier jobs will be bringing the existing soil pipe from upstairs inside the house, where it will be boxed in, and fitting a new rest bend through the existing wall. It looks as though we’ll also need a lintel above the new opening.
